About the Author

Tracy Emerick,
Ph.D.

IMG_0388.jpeg

A retired business owner who spent more than two decades executing, consulting, and training in database marketing — and who kept getting asked to lead things.

He operated a direct marketing agency for twenty years and spent another ten in marketing and business development consulting. He served one decade as a state representative, more than two decades on his town's planning board, and has been the moderator of his Congregational church for close to forty years. He has taught at the graduate level at several universities and has authored two marketing books in addition to this series.

The four books grew out of a habit he never lost: watching how people who change things actually behave, and noticing how often the pattern is older than it looks.

He describes himself simply — “Just a citizen seeking to make the world a better place.”

The record

Where the thinking came from

Three careers running at once — business, government, and church — supply most of the examples in the books.

Why the pairings

The idea behind
the series

Emerick's premise is that leadership leaves the same fingerprints across very different centuries. An entrepreneur who hands people a tool they did not know they needed, a coach who builds a team that outlasts him, a television host who teaches children to be neighbors, a preacher who marches without raising a fist — the outward work looks nothing alike. The inward method, he argues, does.

Each book is short by design. The point is not a biography; it is a comparison a reader can carry into Monday.

Four short books on leadership, courage, neighborliness and calling — each one a comparison.
